You probably read the headline to this article and are now wondering, why is this RPG controversial?
Well, just look at it. LIGHT OF MOTIRAM is the epitome of the joke “we’ve got Horizon Zero Dawn at home”, and then your mum brings out the bargain basement facsimile from Home Bargains.
LIGHT OF MOTIRAM could surpass its inspirations.
Just one look at the steam page for LIGHT OF MOTIRAM shows where the inspiration comes from, it’s basically a developer copying the homework of another.

I’m not saying this is a bad game - I haven’t played it - it’s not even out yet, but it’s hard to look past the blatant attempt at cashing in on the success of the PlayStation IP.
There’s a survival aspect to this one, which is where the Valheim inspiration comes in, and the game looks harmless enough - I’m probably being too harsh.
There’s a Palworld vibe to it all; as in, the game will be decent, it’ll likely be fun, but it’s clearly pulling from the success of others and trying to adapt it.
That’s not a bad thing, but when your marketing basically shows huge robotic dinosaurs, players are just going to have the brilliant Horizon series in mind while playing.

Of course, this RPG does try to set itself apart from the inspiration by adding in co-op and multiplayer interactions, and there’s base-building, and crafting included to distance itself from Horizon.
The Steam page also notes that there will be PvP and MMO aspects to the final game, which will allow for players to interact in various ways, expanding the experience.
There’s no release date scheduled, as yet, but we’ll be keeping an eye on this one, to see if it can reach the success of its idols.
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, just don’t read the second part of the quote.
