One day, we’ll actually have Grand Theft Auto VI in our hands. Heck, I think we’d all take a teaser trailer at this point. Just something from Rockstar to assure us that the game isn’t a complete and utter fever dream, because it sure does feel like that sometimes.
For now, all we can do is theorise. Well, we have a little to go on. It’s been over one year since Rockstar officially confirmed GTA VI’s existence. Then, in September of last year, the studio was hit by a major cyber attack during which development footage was leaked online. At a recent earnings call, Rockstar hinted that the game should release sometime between April 2024 and April 2025 so the end does appear to be in sight. Now, one industry insider claims to know that GTA VI will feature an 80s flashback and will partly be set in Cuba. Intriguing.
GTA VI is rumoured to be set in Vice City. This incredible mod may give us an idea of what to expect.
YouTuber Tyler McVicker claims to have inside knowledge on GTA VI. In a recent stream, he said, “We already know how GTA VI is gonna end. Spoilers, Bonnie and Clyde back in like the 30s, died in a blaze of gunfire. It’s not three playable characters, it’s two playable characters. It takes place with a time jump. It takes place in the Miami, Florida, area and then also part of Cuba. It’s about the drug trade. It’s about bank robbing. It’ll be out in 2024.”

McVicker doesn’t cite any sources and admittedly, doesn’t have any track record with Rockstar. If anything, I’d say this is more of an educated guess. Last year, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that while he knew of GTA VI’s modern day setting, he couldn’t rule out flashbacks. The Cuba setting rumour then popped up back in April.
During last year’s leak, development footage appeared to show Bonnie and Clyde style dual protagonists - thought to be named Jason and Lucia - but that’s not to say that they’ll go out in a blaze of gunfire like the real Bonnie and Clyde did. I’d take McVicker’s guesses with a generous pinch of salt, but it’s interesting that the same theories and rumours keep popping up time and time again.
