Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been selling much better than some anticipated.
After Ubisoft had delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows on more than one occasion, I think it’s fair to say that many of us feared that the franchise might be hitting its lowest point.
Yet, in our review of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, we said: “This is an epic, sweeping adventure bolstered by jaw-dropping visuals and a masterful blend of stealth, action, and exploration. You don’t want to miss this one.”

As reported by VGC (via Mat Piscatella), the Ubisoft title is reportedly the second-best-selling game in the US so far in 2025.
“Here's a fun one... Assassin's Creed Shadows has been the best-selling video game in the US for each of its first three weeks in the market, according to Circana's Retail Tracking Service,” said Piscatella on BlueSky. “Currently ranks #2 year-to-date trailing only Monster Hunter Wilds.”

Since its release, Ubisoft has shared information stating that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is one of the most played games in the series, which is of course very different to actual sales figures. Hopefully, Ubisoft will release those numbers one day.
Here's a fun one... Assassin's Creed: Shadows has been the best-selling video game in the US for each of its first 3 weeks in market, according to Circana's Retail Tracking Service (dollar sales, latest data through April 5th). Currently ranks #2 year-to-date trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds.

According to SteamDB, at the time of writing, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has an all-time concurrent player total of 64,825. Some may deem that as being low but it’s higher than 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey which has a nice number of 62,069.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, a game that many consider to be the best in the series has a much lower concurrent player number on Steam with 16,049.
Sure, these are just Steam numbers on PC, and just like any publisher, I’m sure Ubisoft wants to see bigger numbers.
That being said, it will be interesting to see how it’s performed on PlayStation and Xbox, but comparatively for the series, perhaps Assassin’s Creed Shadows isn't as bad as some hoped it would be.

I finally had the chance to jump into Assassin’s Creed Shadows recently and after putting in about 15 to 20 hours so far, I can hand on heart say that I’m having a fantastic time with it. Even as a fan of the series, it’s much better than I could have hoped.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
