Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series are bracing for an unprecedented price for GTA VI that’s looking increasingly likely.
The price of video games is becoming more expensive and as such, keeping up with the latest releases is more financially challenging. This is why subscription services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass can be great money-savers, especially if they include games we’ve wanted to buy.
That financial burden hasn't been helped by some Nintendo Switch 2 games such as Mario Kart World having a launch RRP of £74.99, making it the most expensive AAA standard game of the current generation.

That being said, you’d be unlucky to pay £74.99 for the likes of Mario Kart World with retail outlets competing against each other, which should in turn lower that price (I hope).
The potential prices of upcoming video games have no doubt been helped by the recent import tariffs imposed by United States of America president, Donald Trump.

It’s long been speculated that the next entry in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series could be the first standard game to charge around £90 to £100. Whether GTA VI costs that much at launch, remains to be seen.
“Analyst thinks Take-Two will sell Grand Theft Auto VI at an unprecedented $100 price point,” read a headline from VGC shared by Redditor Mirathrim.
“$70 for the base game, $30 for the premium edition add-on. It'd be far from unheard of; we've been seeing this crap for years,” replied SilverZephyr.
“I'm convinced some CEOs or investors are paying ‘analysts’ to keep saying this, so the consumers get more comfortable with paying even more for games when they decide to pull the trigger,” suggested Theonearmedbard.

“The thing is, people will still buy it in droves at that price point,” said Supernovas20XX. “Assuming that's actually true, of course.”
“I can only speak for myself, but I will not be buying GTA VI for $100,” exclaimed Neil_O_Tip.
While few things surprise me anymore, I would be somewhat surprised if the folks at the Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive would charge this much for a standard game without bonus DLC and physical items.
That being said, even if GTA VI had an RRP of £99.99 at launch, much like Mario Kart World, retail competition will most likely bring the price down, at least by a bit.
