Just a few days ago, Rockstar Games was subject to a cyber attack. During this, development footage of Grand Theft Auto VI was obtained and leaked online seemingly confirming the title’s rumoured female protagonist and Vice City setting. Since then, Rockstar have confirmed the authenticity of the footage as they simultaneously try and remove any trace of it remaining online. As with anything that hits the Internet, removing all traces is an uphill battle and fans are using any available development footage to create a potential map.

It’s not the first time this has happened. Back in 2011, fans used GTA V’s various trailers, screenshots, and previews to create what they imagined to be the game’s map and it turns out, when the game did eventually release, they were bang on. As reported by Kotaku AU, similar efforts are now being made in regards to GTA VI.

This is a community effort so fans are focusing on different sections of the map, sharing their work online in the hopes of creating a fully realised map of Vice City. You may be wondering how fans are dealing with the DMCA Takedowns.
Well, they’re being savvy about it. To map Vice City, fans are sharing Google Earth images instead of screenshots. Some are even using Microsoft Paint to recreate moments seen in the development footage. Already, one mapping forum has been shut down so many have turned to private Discord servers. After just a few days, fans are convinced they have a rough outline. I’m sure it won’t take them long to fill in the blanks.
