GoldenEye 007 on 64 is way more iconic than the OG movie, fans argue on Reddit.
The GoldenEye 007 movie was released 25 years ago in 1995 and would be Pierce Brosnan’s debut as the silky suave, yet deadly MI5 agent. The movie would also prove to be quite the smash hit, making a reported $356.4 million at the box office from its budget of $60 million.
GoldenEye 007 would also be a success for critics and fans alike, as indicated on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 80% from critics and 83% from fans. So it’s fair to say that no video game based on the movie could ever top that, right?

Well, yes actually. Growing up in the 90s, I’d consider myself to be quite a mild James Bond fan. Out of all the Bonds, the late great Sean Connery has to be my favourite, closely followed by the most recent double agent, Daniel Craig.
That being said, I can’t really remember caring much for the GoldenEye 007 movie and I certainly wasn't gathered on a sofa with friends to watch it, unlike its video game counterpart.
Odder than Oddjob, the GoldenEye 007 video game for Nintendo N64 wouldn't actually release until two years later in 1997. So perhaps by that point, any hype for the movie had calmed down. Yet, that didn't stop the video game from being a cult classic and engraved in the nostalgic minds of millions of children and adults across the world. In fact, GoldenEye 007 is also one of the highest-scoring games on Metacritic with an all-mighty 96!
Fans on Reddit have been discussing which is more iconic, the movie or the video game.

“GoldenEye for N64 would be argued by many (myself included) to have even more of a lasting impact than the movie it was based on,” posted Redditor Zorak6. “Is GoldenEye unique in this regard or has there ever been another game that could boast the same? I can't think of one.”
“I admit when I think GoldenEye it is never the movie that comes to mind,” replied Bad_Faith_Detector. “I can definitely agree with the sentiment that this game has more of a lasting impact than the movie, but damn if it isn’t my favourite Bond movie too,” said carpediem930.

Arguably the biggest point made in regard to which is more iconic, the GoldenEye 007 movie or video was made by DinosaurKevin, who said: “I think of Sean Bean… not the movie.”
If you’ve never played the GoldenEye 007 video game, it was recently released on Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online, so go away and play this classic. But just remember, no Oddjob, you cheat!
