We may not know much about the live-action God of War TV series just yet, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not one of the most exciting things on the horizon for fans of the series.
Earlier this year, The Last of Us show proved that with enough care and respect for the source material, video game adaptations can be truly fantastic, and by all accounts it sounds like God of War’s TV debut will be following in its footsteps. Amazon Studios' head of television Vernon Sanders previously stated that the first season is “both incredibly true to the source material, and also compelling on its own”.
Take a look at this behind-the-scenes footage from God of War Ragnarök starring the adorable four-legged motion capture actor for Fenrir.
The same sentiment shared by Sanders was echoed by Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope earlier this year, who said: “I know the game pretty well, and I’m so impressed with what they’re already doing in terms of building out that world and expanding, keeping all the values of the game but also expanding it so that if you don’t know the game, it’s still going to be a really satisfying show on its own.”

Of course, everyone’s been wondering who the series will star. Fans have been clamouring for the original voice and motion caption actors from the games to make a return, and it excitingly sounds like they’d all be down to do so. During a panel at MCM London Comic Con on Sunday 28 May, one fan asked Sunny Suljic, Danielle Bisutti, Ryan Hurst, and Alastair Duncan (who played Atreus, Freya, Thor and Mimir, respectively) if they’d be interested in being a part of the series, and they were all keen.
Panel co-host, Eurogamer’s Aoife Wilson, pointed out that both Hurst and Duncan “already kinda look like your characters”, and Bisutti added: “We’ve all been in television and film, come to think of it. We would love it.”
Suljic chimed in: “Yes, yes, I would definitely love it. But I think the adaptation’s for the first one? So, I dunno, we’ll see what happens. I mean, the characters are marked [sic] after a few of our faces so, you know, I think we have a pretty good start.”
Although Kratos’ actor Christopher Judge wasn’t at the panel, he’s previously expressed his interest in reprising his role for the TV series, so we already know that he’d be down. We’ll just have to see what happens.
