It’s been five years since Bethesda revealed The Elder Scrolls VI with a cinematic trailer, yes, five years and we’re no closer to knowing when it's being released or are we?
At this point, it’s been so long since that initial trailer that only showed us a rendered landscape and logo, that you’d be forgiven if you totally forgot that The Elder Scrolls VI was even a thing.
Recently when speaking in court in defence of Microsoft in the case against the FTC that filed a temporary restraining order and an injunction to block the $68.7 billion takeover of Activision Blizzard, Xbox chief Phil Spencer claimed that the release of The Elder Scrolls VI could be another five years away. If true, that means that we’d be waiting the better part of a decade for Bethesda’s highly anticipated fantasy RPG.

However, as reported by DSOgaming, in the latest development at the FTC court case, a Microsoft lawyer has claimed that The Elder Scrolls VI will release three years away in 2026. If that does in fact happen, someone may or may not eat their feet (probably).
“Could I clarify one issue that the council raised with you, when you were asking about ZeniMax [Bethesda’s parent company] and asked him to find a game that was most similar to Xbox, he mentioned Elder Scrolls. That is incorrect,” said the lawyer.
They continued: “There are two Elder Scrolls games, one is online called The Elder Scrolls Online — that is a multiplayer game, it is on PlayStation today. The game he’s talking about is The Elder Scrolls VI… the projected release is 2026 as a single-player game. It is not anywhere similar to Call of Duty, which as you know is multiplayer and multi-platform.”
In related news, Bethesda head honcho Todd Howard believes that The Elder Scrolls VI might be his last game, and disgruntled gamers have organised a petition in the hope of preventing the fantasy RPG from being an Xbox exclusive.

In the immediate future, Bethesda’s next big game, sci-fi RPG Starfield will be released for PC and Xbox Series X|S on 6 September 2023.
