Mixed martial artist and former member of the WWE, Dave Bautista, has said he will step down from his role as Drax following Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3.
Bautista has starred as Drax The Destroyer in all three Guardians Of The Galaxy films, with the third movie set to release sometime next year. He also played the character in other Marvel properties such as Avengers: Endgame and the upcoming Thor: Love And Thunder. He has had a flourishing acting career following his retirement from wrestling, including a role in 2021’s Dune, which won six Oscars at the last Academy Awards.
You can watch a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy in the video below.
While people were speculating that Marvel may be retiring the character of Drax after Bautista says goodbye to the role, the former wrestler came to Twitter to reassure people that isn’t the case. When Bautista steps down from the role following this year’s Thor film and 2023’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, the role of Drax will remain open if Marvel chooses to replace the actor.

In tweets, Bautista explained that “Drax isn’t going anywhere”, though he did add that he will no longer be in the role. When asked why he’s stepping down from the part, he cites that he believes he’s getting too old for the part saying “I’m expecting everything to start sagging any second now.”
Bautista has only said that he will be stepping down from the part of Drax and not that he is retiring from acting as a whole. Hopefully, we will see more from him in new or other returning roles in the future, even if the characters aren't part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anyone up for a return of the Scorpion King films? I'd watch it.
