Dave Bautista is super duper keen to play Marcus Fenix in the recently revealed Gears of War Netflix show - I mean, he'll probably petition to appear in the new film and the upcoming animated series too because this is his white whale.
Earlier this week, Netflix dropped the news that fans will be treated to three new pieces of media set in the universe of the Delta Squad. "On the 16th anniversary of the original video game’s 2006 release, Netflix announced a partnership with The Coalition to adapt the Gears of War universe," read the press release. "Netflix will first adapt the video game saga into a live action feature film, followed by an adult animated series, with the potential for more stories to follow."

Clearly, it's a great time to be a Gears of War groupie. Bautista, on the other hand, has hitched his wagon to these new shows and film with vigor, pushing for a casting as the central character Marcus Fenix.
"I can't make this any easier," he said on Twitter, using the trailer for Gears 5 which had him garbed in the character's signature chunky armor and mentioning both Gears of War and Netflix's official accounts just to hammer that point home. At the time of writing, the Tweet has nearly 80,000 likes and over 12,000 Retweets, surely signifying that the people see the vision that Bautista has for the character. And, Cliff Bleszinski has also shown support: "Brother, as the designer of 1 2 and 3 you're my first choice."

It's difficult to deny he hasn't got the looks for the role and when The Coalition added the actor to Gears 5 as a playable protagonist, they started their work with "the fantasy of ‘Batista as Marcus,’ putting Batista into Marcus’ armor, and starting with Marcus’ script." Of course, the buck stops with the casting department, and we don't even have a tentative release window for either the film, show or animated series yet. They'd be a bit silly not to put Bautista back into the world of Gears, though.
