Gears Of War live-action series already has the perfect Marcus casting, fans agree

Or has the time passed?

Has Netflix missed the boat with the perfect casting for Marcus in Gears of War? Dave Bautista was right there, he wanted the part, he asked for the part, and now?

Well, if you’ve seen pictures of the once-renowned WWE wrestler, now a superb actor, you’ll notice he looks very different.

Gears of War E-Day will take us back to the Gears universe with a prequel to the original game

Bautista has significantly slimmed down over the past year for a variety of reasons - wanting to be physically healthier but also wanting to be taken seriously as an actor.

In recent interviews, he has commented that the muscle bulk he used to carry made him stand out too much among a group of actors on set.

Nowadays, the man is practically svelt.

At his peak build, Bautista remarked many times that he wanted the role of Marcus Fenix and fans thought he was perfect.

On Reddit, fans of his work and of the game thought he was ideal.

“He's got the perfect frame and action-movie chops for it,” said InflamedLiver when details were originally being discussed.

Non-RedditorJ said, “Not casting Bautista in Gears of War is like going back in time to 1986 to make a Metal Gear Solid movie, and not casting Kurt Russell as Snake!”

However, that ship has sailed, so who could now step into the bulky armour?

Options are few and far between given that so many actors are slimming down instead of bulking up, and Netflix need solid walls of muscle for a Gears of War adaptation.

In other corners of Reddit, one user suggests Josh Brolin for Marcus, while another puts forward Terry Crews to play Cole.

Having said all of this, it’s hard to know where this project is with Netflix.

With a new Gears of War game on the horizon, perhaps the conversation of adaptations will start all over again.
