No one enjoys trudging up old unpleasant memories, but sometimes it's necessary.
We all remember Battlefield 2042’s abysmal release.
The game was ridden with glitches and bugs - and yes, it’s vastly improved over time and is in a pretty decent state today but not every game can emulate Cyberpunk 2077’s redemption arc.

Sometimes, the damage is simply done and Battlefield 2042 has always struggled with rather lacklustre player counts.
Such a situation must’ve provided DICE and EA with the opportunity to reflect though, and hopefully they came to the conclusion that this kind of messy launch cannot happen again if the Battlefield franchise is to have a future.
Well, we’re starting to hear more about that future.
ICYMI: Take a look at our Star Wars Outlaws preview below.
According to EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, the next Battlefield game will be “one of the most ambitious projects in our history” as the team set to work building a “Battlefield universe”.

Wilson claimed this during EA’s Q1 2025 financial results, as reported by PC Gamer.
“We have brought together the very best team coupled with the resources and technology they need to deliver an epic Battlefield experience,” he continued.
The problem is, we’ve somewhat heard all of this before … before the launch of Battlefield 2042.
“Wasn’t that said about every other battlefield prior and every game studio CEO about any new title? Investor talk. Love to see it,” said one social media user.

“They say this about every single Battlefield game,” added another.
One comment read, “We have heard all of this before 2042 dropped, ‘The most ambitious title,’ just be quiet, work on the game and deliver something we truly want.”
As they say, the proof is in the pudding. Let’s hope the next entry lives up to Wilson’s bold claims.
