After months of waiting, EA has confirmed that Battlefield is finally coming back… but it seems faith in the franchise is at an all-time low, based on the player feedback to the latest reveal.
Last night, EA announced Battlefield Labs - the precursor to the next Battlefield title that will serve as a testing ground for the next entry in the franchise.
You can sign up to take part in Battlefield Labs right now, and if you do, the first thing you’ll be testing out is the game’s destruction effects.

EA has labelled Battlefield Labs the "most ambitious community testing program in franchise history" and "a critical phase in development that will benefit from collaboration with the community like never before,” but it doesn’t sound like the community is particularly convinced that they’ll actually take any of their advice on board.
Over in a thread detailing the reveal on the subreddit r/pcgaming, it’s pretty difficult to find a single positive comment.
Take a look at the Battlefield Labs trailer below.
“I mean, wasn't testing a big push for 2042? Then we all gave feedback, they didn't listen to anyone and pushed something incomplete,” commented user imakeyoureligious.

“Not to mention those were the worst tests I have ever taken part of in my [six plus] years of QAT… I'll wait for the final product.”
“Wow, another video from a game developer saying that they are very enthusiastically working on their new game,” replied user Oreades2k.
“Zero acknowledgement of the insanely terrible design choices for 2042 makes me think they have learned nothing,” commented user SiscoSquared.
“This is their usual stupid hype video that means literally nothing in terms of what the next game will be.”

Honestly, It’s pretty hard to argue with any of these takes. Battlefield 2042 left a pretty sour taste in a lot of fans' mouths, and EA need to do something truly special if they want to win back some of that lost faith.
I’m not sure the most corporate video ever made featuring a bunch of poor staff members being forced to blurt out dumb catchphrases was the play here. Here’s hoping they at least take the advice on board this time, though.
