Assassin’s Creed Shadows players are just realising that Ubisoft hid an extremely handy upgrade in plain sight, with some even annoyed that said upgrade wasn’t directly pointed out to them by the game beforehand.
Thank you in advance to ComicBook’s Tyler Fischer for the original story.
Over in a thread on the r/assassinscreed subreddit, one player has pointed out a super useful upgrade in Assassin’s Creed Shadows that seemingly nobody else had noticed beforehand.

“I took me way to long to realise this, I just thought was some kind of collectable, sort of like in Star Wars Outlaws,” writes user ComManDerBG.
“But if you are in a town and you see a food vendor (the noodle bowl icon), interact with it and will permanently increase the amount of rations you carry by one.”
In case you’re unaware of what rations do, they act as your primary resource for healing.
Take a look at the game in action below.
And, based on some of these comments, it seems a lot of players have unintentionally been playing on hard mode by limiting the number of them they can carry at once.

“Huh I hadn't even realised this," commented user InsaneMarshmallow.
"I didn't recall seeing any tip pop up, just codex entries for foods, like natto and mochi. I didn't even make the connection that these were linked to the ration healing.”
“That is mind bogglingly obtuse," replied user ColonelContrarian.
"I've played something like 40 hours on expert with four rations, struggling in every fight and running away to find the sparsely placed ration boxes... I'm glad you posted this though, things are about to get a LOT better for Naoe.”

I think a lot of players can be forgiven for this however, considering it sounds like the game never actually points this out to you at any point.
I wonder what the rationale behind that was haha (sorry).
