The Call of Duty series has been one of the most popular and lucrative franchises since its inception in 2003 and the series doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. Actually, the recently reimagined Modern Warfare III might have something to say about that.
In 2019, the iconic Modern Warfare series was reimagined with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which spawned two more reimagined sequels in 2022 and 2023, respectively. The OG Modern Warfare series is widely considered to be the best that this franchise has to offer, so it was imperative that the 2019 release was bang on the money.

Unfortunately, the early impressions are in for Modern Warfare III (2023) and by the looks of things, it’s certainly not living up to the quality of its predecessors. Not only were some fans frustrated with not being able to play their early access copies of the game, but some are furious over its apparent three-hour campaign.

Of course, how good one might determine a game to be is subjective to the individual. However, with scores in the 80s on Metacritic, it’s fair to say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) was at least mostly well-received. That being said, it still falls short of its 2007 inspiration, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which scored as high as 94 earning the ‘Must-Play’ accolade on Metacritic.
Regardless of what the future holds for the most recent entry in the Call of Duty series, fans have been looking back fondly on 2019’s Modern Warfare campaign. “I forgot how good MW 2019’s campaign is,” said Redditor Crusty_MilkJuice kicking off the discussion on the thread.
“With all the discussion around MWIII’s apparent lacklustre and disappointing campaign, I decided to reinstall MW 2019 again to replay it, and its campaign is quite possibly one of the most hard-hitting and engaging ones I ever played,” they continued. “I had pretty much forgotten how involved and immersive it is, and its subject matter was brilliant.”
“Going from the 2007 narrative of a clear “good guy, bad guy” viewpoint, MW 2019 blurs the lines and does a great job of showing how the theatre of war has changed significantly since those times. The characters were amazingly reimagined as well. I love the dynamic between Price, Kyle (Gaz), Alex and Farah and the game actually makes you give a sh** about them.”

“MW 2019 is indeed a good single-player campaign for CoD. Although I prefer the MWII gunplay and sound effect improvements, the story also unfolds quite well,” replied adkogz7. “I just finished it yesterday for the first time after MWII/MWIII and I was blown away. It’s such a great story and the characters are kick ass, especially Farah,” replied Bitter-World150200.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is out now via its early access campaign with its full release arriving on 10 November for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
