It's 2009. Barack Obama was just sworn in as the 44th president of the United States. Avatar is about to hit cinemas and trick several people into thinking that buying a 3D TV is a sound financial decision. Every popular song in the charts has a saxophone solo for some reason. Your aunt just sent you another invitation to join FarmVille.
And, most importantly, the sequel to Activision’s hit first-person shooter is about to drop: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Like Anton Ego forking that first mouthful of ratatouille into his mouth, the mere sound of the name sends me back in time.

Suddenly I can hear the sounds of screaming, borderline infant children in my ears as they make disparaging comments about my family members. Every single person is running a double akimbo Model 1887 build. People are saying stuff like “360 no-scope”, but unironically. It was a simpler time.
If I’ve suddenly got you feeling nostalgic, I’ve got some good news for you; a team of very talented modders are planning to release a remastered version of Modern Warfare 2 on 16 August, this month.
This year will bring us Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Take a look below.
The “H2M” mod is attempting to bring several Modern Warfare 2 maps to the remastered version of the first Modern Warfare, and the work they’ve done so far looks seriously impressive. Don’t take my word for it, though. Have a gander at their latest trailer instead.
For any of you ever so slightly confused, yes, there already is a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that was officially released back in 2020.

The difference is that unlike the remastered version of the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the remastered version of its sequel doesn’t have online functionality.
You can still actually play Modern Warfare 2 online, but the creators behind the H2M mod are simply trying to bring the updated visuals found in the remastered version to modern systems.
All in all, it’s a neat project and the team behind it have made some impressive progress. We’ll have to wait a few more days to see how well it functions however, and whether or not Activision plans on sending them a cease and desist beforehand.
