OG Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 officially set to return

The greatest in the series

The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is officially set to return soon and fans will be able to play it practically for free.

Activision’s Call of Duty series is one of the most popular video game properties of all time, ever since the first game was released in 2003. Since that time, each new entry has been a commercial and critical (for the most part) success, with Activision releasing a new Call of Duty practically every year.

Following prolonged court battles with market regulators, when Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard in October 2023 for an eye-watering $75.4 billion, Call of Duty fans were hoping that it’s only a matter of time until the entire collection is made available on Xbox Game Pass.

While the Call of Duty series coming to Xbox Game Pass has taken longer than many had expected (except Modern Warfare III and Black Ops 6), it seems that arguably the best entry in the series, 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is coming to the subscription service soon.

As reported by Xbox Era and collaborated by Insider Gaming (thanks Reddit), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will reportedly arrive on Xbox Game Pass between March and April this year.

It remains to be seen whether this will be the original version of the game or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Campaign Remastered which was released in 2020 and had no multiplayer.

Either way, it’s an exciting time for Call of Duty fans, because whenever Modern Warfare 2 arrives, it’s likely to be the first of the original games that will eventually come to Xbox Game Pass.

If all the original games come to Xbox Game Pass with vibrant online multiplayer modes, it will be fantastic to take many trips down the Call of Duty memory lane.

Of course, we should take all unconfirmed speculation with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise but we’ll be sure to let you know when Activision and Microsoft drop the official details.
