After a few entries in the series with maximalist open worlds with hundreds of hours of gameplay, developer Ubisoft decided to take Assassin’s Creed back to its roots with 2023’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Set across a smaller, more tightly-designed map, and with a restored focus on assassinations, players found Mirage scratched an itch in a way that had been pretty much ignored in recent years.
If the idea of a modern take on the classic formula sounds like a killer combination to you, right now you can snap up Assassin’s Creed Mirage for just £15.99 on PS5, down from £28.99 at Argos.

Focusing on an assassin called Basim, players venture through the Baghdad of 861 CE and the Islamic Golden Age, slicing and dicing their way through targets by taking advantage of the environment and opportunities to hide in plain sight.
Series staples like parkour, horse riding, evading guards, and hunting down nefarious ne’er-do-wells are all present and correct, with much of the busywork that’s come to define the bigger entries being more or less absent. The result is a focused and tightly-designed outing that highlights the best the series has to offer.
With 4.5 out of 5 from 46 customer reviews so far, it seems most players agree. “Good solid game, back to nostalgic Assassin’s Creed,” said one five-star review.
“I’ve only been playing this game for a couple of hours but the gameplay and graphics are amazing, as well the storyline,” said another five-star review. “I can tell that I’m about to lose a couple of weeks of my life to this game and if it’s half as good as Valhalla it’s well worth the money.”

“Bought this because I had heard good things!” added another happy gamer. “The game really goes back to its roots of the first few Assassin’s Creed games. No convoluted RPG mechanics. Just good tight gameplay!”
Others feel the stripped-back formula is less worth their time. “It's okay, but it feels like a demo,” said one review. “It's short and lacks a lot of aspects that the previous Assassin’s Creeds have. It is nothing in comparison to Valhalla.”
“Not as good as other Assassin’s Creed games and it’s reflected in the price,” said another less-positive review. “There’s not much to do after main game is completed.”
