Second time lucky

First released back in 2021 for PC users, Amazon Game’s latest fantasy MMO is heading to Xbox Series X/S consoles and it is free to download right now.

Almost three years on from its PC release, New World: Aeternum is finally arriving to the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 later this year.

However, Amazon Games has revealed that members of the Xbox Insider programme can now access its closed beta test.

According to Microsoft, the closed beta test will run until 31 July at 12pm EST and Xbox Insiders in supported regions (North America and Europe) can access it by completing these steps:

  • Launch the Xbox Insider Hub on your Xbox Series X/S console
  • Head to Previews > New World: Aeternum
  • Select ‘Join’

You will then be directed to the Xbox store where you will be able to download the New World: Aeternum closed beta.

Those unsure if the game is for you can check out this official synopsis:

“New World: Aeternum is an action RPG set on the supernatural island of Aeternum in the twilight of the Age of Exploration.

As a shipwrecked explorer who washes ashore on the mysterious island, forge your destiny on an adventure filled with danger and opportunity.

There is a lot to discover on the island of Aeternum with endless opportunities to fight, forage, and forge.

Play your way by fully customizing the look and abilities of your character with access to swords, guns, and sorcery.”

The MMORPG currently sits at a “mixed” review rating on Steam with players claiming that the game “died” after a year.

However, having it released on console may kick start its revival but it remains to be seen how the Amazon Games’ title will be received by a new legion of players.
