If you’re on the lookout for a brand new open world zombie RPG to keep you entertained, you’re in the right place because I have just the game for you. Oh, and it also happens to star Will Smith.
Chances are you may be craving a zombie fix. If you were, like me, hoping to get an update on The Last of Us franchise at last night’s PlayStation Showcase, I’m sure you too are disappointed. We know that a TLOU multiplayer game is in the works but to date, we’ve still only had a few glimpses at a couple of pieces of concept art. Naughty Dog did say from now on, they wouldn’t unveil games until they’re nearing completion. The Last of Us’ 10 year anniversary falls on 14 June so there’s hope there. Despite its recent renaissance, there’s no zombie fix to be found in the Days Gone franchise either with a sequel still not on the cards. With both of those things in mind, you may want to check out Undawn which launches on 15 June.
Take a look at Will Smith in action as Trey Jones in Undawn’s cinematic trailer below.
From developer Lightspeed Studios, Undawn is an incoming free-to-play open-world survival RPG that’ll be released on mobile and PC on 15 June, with pre-registrations open now. The synopsis reads, “Embark on an adventure with other survivors four years after a worldwide disaster where hordes of infected roam a shattered world.” Bold of them to go with the phrasing ‘infected’ when The Last of Us is arguably bigger than ever right now but alas, here we are.

As mentioned, the game stars Will Smith as ‘legendary survivor’ Trey Jones who will act as a guide for players. In this world, humans have split into factions. Players will belong to Raven Squad, and will face off against members of the Clowns, Eagles, Night Owls and Reivers - fighting for territory and supplies.
In addition to fighting off opponents, you’ll also get the opportunity to “explore an expansive open world filled with diverse environments such as plains, mines, deserts, swamps, and abandoned cities, each with unique ecosystems and dangers.” Players will need to “brave rain, heat, snow, and storms while monitoring their character’s health and well being to stay alive against overwhelming odds.” If you pre-register for the game now, you could unlock loot ahead of launch as a reward. It’s a shame Undawn isn’t launching for consoles but it certainly sounds like a promising game.
