So, what do you get if you mash up Skyrim, Far Cry, and Valheim? It’s not a joke, though I wish I had a punchline for you.
The answer is actually a game called Viking Frontiers, and I’ll get into the inspirations littered throughout this game, coming to Steam later this year.
Viking Frontiers is shaping up nicely on Steam, and is due out this year
What is Viking Frontiers? Well, it’s an open-world survival game, set within the age of Vikings.

Sadly, I’ve not had a chance to play this one, so we’re going off the details in the Steam page and trailers, to get excited.
As a big survival game fan, this title looks like it’s pulling from some of the best, and combining them in the best way.
The developers note, this is an “Immersive simulation features, including crafting, building, hunting, expeditions.”
It’s easy to see the Valheim comparisons, given the Vikings and Nordic setting.

The RPG mechanics, and the tools and weapons on display feel as if they’ve been pulled directly from Skyrim, which also leans into that Viking feel.
Now, where did we get the Far Cry vibe from? Well, from the best Far Cry game in the series, Far Cry Primal.
No, I won’t be taking any notes on that comment, it’s the superior entry in that series and anyone who disagrees needs to give their head a wobble.
Viking Frontiers will challenge players through frenetic combat, as well as the need to survive by taking care of your character.

Building a settlement is a massive part of the journey, and seems to sit nicely alongside a “misty tale straight from the Viking sagas.”
Players will be able to oversee “Management of clansmen’s needs, laws, activities and living conditions,” to add yet another layer to this complex RPG.
It’s a shame there’s no firm release date on this one, as it’s shaping up nicely.
