Far Cry meets Valheim in brutal new survival RPG

There's plenty to contend with in this title

If you enjoy tactical first-person shooters, then I heartily recommend that you take a look at Echoes Below.

Developed by Echo Division, the game is perhaps best described as Far Cry meets the survival aspects of a game like Valheim.

“You find yourself stranded on an archipelago after suddenly losing all contact with your squad. Cutoff from command, you are left to navigate a hostile world where every resource, every bullet, and every decision determines your survival,” the synopsis of Echoes Below reads.

“Against all odds, one objective remains clear - find your squad, track down paramilitary cultists and investigate an interdimensional force to contain the supernatural threat. No matter the cost.”

You can take a look at Echoes Below in action, well, below.

As you may have surmised, you’ll be dealing with a supernatural threat here so I hope you’re not easily spooked.

You’ll be tasked with searching abandoned towns, bunkers, and outposts, looking for supplies that aid your survival, but so too does each location hold “hidden dangers”.

You’ll also want to be on the lookout for clues that’ll unravel the mystery of exactly what happened on these islands.

Of course, there are human foes to deal with too, particularly in areas of high value where supplies and land are highly contested.

Human foes will also have set traps across the islands, so you may want to watch your step.

Throw in a complex weather system, and you can likely see that there’s plenty to contend with in Echoes Below.

It’s an open world game and as you might’ve guessed from the Valheim comparison, players will also need to build and fortify a base.

When scavenging and venturing out, you’ll be able to select up to three squad members to assist you, with various different roles available to select from including the likes of medics, snipers, and riflemen.

Honestly, there’s so much detail to Echoes Below’s various systems that it’s impossible for me to summarise everything here so I urge you to have a peruse of the Steam page.

The game isn’t out just yet but it will be launching in early access on Steam “soon”.

While in early access, devs are hoping to add co-op multiplayer, expand the map, add new points of interest, and implement ‘Survival Expansion’ and ‘Vehicle Warfare’ updates.

This really feels like one to keep an eye on, so I suggest you wishlist it to be kept up to date on its progress.
