In recent years, Disney has started to distance itself from the Skywalker saga, though it’s not a storyline they’ll ever fully abandon.
After all, it’s where the roots of Star Wars belong, and the love of those original characters will keep bringing fans back to the franchise.
We've had a de-aged Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian, but could he be recast?
With the revisiting of legacy characters, Disney has done everything from recasting the younger versions of Han Solo, to de-ageing Mark Hamill to appear as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian.

One fan, on BlueSky, suggests completely recasting Luke Skywalker in order to pursue a story set in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi, saying it’s something “we all want.”
This opinion was taken over to Reddit to see what other fans thought of the idea, and the response was muddled.
“If done well I'd watch the s**t outta this,” said doogbone in the top reply, which currently has over 8,000 upvotes.
“Yup. This is what I have wanted ever since I was a child and watched RoTJ,” echoes another long-time Star Wars fan.

Redditor Three_Twenty-Three isn’t as sure as others, explaining, “No. I'm ready to move out of the Skywalker era completely. It's a big galaxy with a lot of storytelling potential, and I want to see more of that explored.”
This is where a fair few people will fall - the galaxy is huge and there are millions of possibilities to tell new stories.
However, there’s also a great deal of lore still to be explored as off-shoots of old stories.
This is summed up by Nervous-Road661, who says, “On the one hand, I would like to see something new and different. On the other hand, there is a massive unexplained gap between the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy.”

This is a topic that will be argued over for many years to come, but it’s up to Disney to pull the trigger.
