Despite being dead in the current Star Wars timeline, Luke Skywalker’s story is seemingly far from over with the iconic character returning in some capacity over recent years.
Taking his final breaths during 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, many fans believed that Luke Skywalker’s journey would be over.
However, since then, Luke has returned on three separate occasions and fans are left feeling divided over the direction his story is going.

First appearing in 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope and played by Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker went on to become one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe.
That is why his apparent death back in 2017 was an emotional moment for fans, with some believing they may never see him again.

However, that was not the case as Luke went on to appear in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as a Force Ghost, 2020’s The Mandalorian as a younger, CGI version of himself and finally in 2022’s The Book of Boba Fett where he de-aged once more.
When asked by Esquire about his thoughts on seeing a de-aged version of himself, Hamill said, “It is unusual to see yourself like that. It can’t be cheap.”
With Lucasfilms seemingly not done with Skywalker’s story, the actor was then asked about his thoughts on the character returning again in the future.
This would especially make sense considering a lot of Luke’s story has not yet been told.

“People say, ‘Oh, now you’re going to be able to do a whole series of Luke post-Return of the Jedi.’ I said, ‘I don’t think so,’” he explained.
“First of all, they don’t need to tell those stories, but if they do, they could get an age-appropriate actor.”
More specifically, when asked if he would consider returning for the upcoming Rey movie (rumoured to be called New Jedi Order), the actor had the following to say:
“One thing you learn working for Lucasfilm: everything is confidential.

So, if I were involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. And if I were not involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. So, I don’t know. We’ll all find out together, I guess.”
News of this took to r/StarWars and fans were quick to share their thoughts.
“Leave the Skywalkers alone already!” One comment read.
“Disney already has a giant money maker with just "Star Wars", no need to depend on the Skywalker brand.

Or just make an animated series of misadventures.”
Another said: “Yeah I’m 100% for an animated show following Luke, Leia, and Han that’s set a couple years after ROTJ.”
It remains to be seen if this will come to fruition or if Hamill will reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in the future but for now, we can look forward to the upcoming Rey movie when it finally releases.
