Fans are only just realising that two of the most famous Star Wars characters are actually related, although you can cut them some slack considering the two never actually bump into each other.
With how many characters pop up across about a dozen films and who knows how many TV shows and comics, I think it’s understandable for fans to miss the odd connection here and there.
But considering the two characters we’re on about here, I do think it’s extra funny that so many didn’t clock this.

In a thread over the r/StarWars subreddit, one user realised that Kylo Ren, whose grandfather is Darth Vader, is actually the grandson of Padmé Amidala.
Thankfully, folks in the comments were pretty supportive of their lapse in logic.
“Well the sequels take place like half a century after Padmé was dead in universe and outside of R2, no one knows who she was except historians probably,” commented user chrishemsworth_.
ICYMI: Andor returns on Disney+ next month.
“It’s just one of those interesting things that you randomly realise about Star Wars and how it really is one family just wrecking everything and then dying dramatically.”

“When Taika Waititi thought he was going to direct a Star Wars movie, he asked Natalie Portman on the set of Thor: Love and Thunder if she wanted to be in Star Wars,” replied user thiiiiiiisguy. “So. You’re not that stupid.”
Now in their defence, there are 66 years between the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. There’s a whole different trilogy of films in between all of that where Padmé isn’t mentioned by name a single time.
Besides, Padmé wasn’t exactly a big part of her children’s lives considering she died during childbirth, so it’s not exactly like Kylo Ren heard any fun stories about her from Leia.
I mean, if he had, maybe he wouldn’t have turned out to be such a nutjob.
