Marvel debuts our new Winter Soldier in shock reveal

Marvel debuts our new Winter Soldier in shock reveal

We've got an all new Winter Soldier

Marvel Comics is shaking things up with their new run at the Ultimates universe, with one huge reveal coming that will change none other than the Winter Soldier.

That’s right, it will no longer be Bucky Barnes under the mask, as he is unfortunately dead in the Marvel Ultimates universe as confirmed in Ultimate Invasion #2.

Bucky Barnes will be front and centre in Thunderbolts* when it releases next year

Instead, Wolverine will be the one to take on the mantle.

As revealed in recent previews of the upcoming Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1 one shot, the clawed mutant will be the Eurasion Republic’s assassin.

It goes that the Maker, an alternate Reed Richards, had a blood sample of the Winter Soldier prepped when he recreated the world using the Immortus Engine.

This created the Ultimate universe of Earth-6160 and the Maker uses a mindwiped variant of Wolverine as the “ultimate weapon: The Winter Soldier.”

The new look of Wolverine in the suit is superb. In black and red, emblazoned with the Soviet Union star, he’s masked due to his rabid wildness.

According to Chris Condon, who is on writing duties, “When [editor] Wil Moss called me and asked me if I wanted to take on this title, I jumped at the chance and immediately had an idea of what to do with it,”

He continued, “I’m bringing my essence of storytelling from That Texas Blood to the Marvel Universe with Wolverine.”

This version of Wolverine will appear in Ultimate Wolverine when that comic debuts and I’m sure we’ll see a whole new side to the famous mutant.

Will this version of the Winter Soldier become an antihero much like Bucky Barnes? Or will we be following a villainous turn from Wolverine for months to come?

The Ultimate universe is doing great things and the creators continue to go wild with well-known characters.
