The man, the myth, the legend Kevin Feige stopped by the D23 Expo in Brazil recently to just casually drop a few MCU-related bombs on the general public.
The biggest reveal was regarding the focus of Marvel’s Phase Seven line of films, and folks, it took a while but, X-Men fans are finally getting their day in the MCU spotlight.
Big shout out to Caio Coletti over on Omelete for originally reporting on this, as obviously, I don't speak the language required to actually understand this reveal so I wasn’t personally in attendance at D23 Brazil.

Keep in mind that this quote has been Google translated from Portuguese, so it might not be entirely accurate.
“When we were preparing for Avengers: Endgame years ago, it was a matter of getting to the grand finale of our narrative,” said Feige, “And then we had to start all over again after that. This time, on the road to Secret Wars, we already know very well what's going to happen… The X-Men are an important part of that future.”
For now, the story continues in Captain America: Brave New World.
Now, with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, technically the X-Men already have, sort of, been folded into the MCU.

However, Feige’s statement finally confirms that following Avengers: Secret Wars (or, potentially, even during Avengers: Secret Wars) the next big focus of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be on the mutants - outside of just a couple of standalone films.
It’s not entirely surprising, given how long it’s been in the works ever since Disney bought Fox, but it’s nice to finally have the confirmation.
The real question is exactly which plots from the comics and which characters the MCU plans to focus on.
A standalone X-Men film is probably a given, as is a Wolverine film considering the character’s popularity, but I could personally see an Avengers & X-Men: Axis adaptation in our future.
