With over 27,000 comics currently in the Marvel Universe (yep, you read that right), one of its latest volumes brings back an old character… and then takes them away again in quite the brutal fashion.

The Scarlet Witch #1 comic was just released on 12 June and already has fans talking. Following the story of, as you guessed it, Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff, the first volume in the series is already off to a good start.

Check out Marvel's Blade announcement trailer below!

The synopsis reads: “The Scarlet Witch has carved out a haven for herself in upstate New York, but it's all about to go up in flames. Wanda's newfound peace has drawn the wrath of a primal force unlike anything she's ever faced before, and it won't stop until it razes Wanda's world to the ground.

It's a clash of titans as Wanda and her allies fight for all she holds dear! What happens when an unstoppable force meets the end of all things? When pure chaos meets pure destruction? Wanda's about to find out - if she survives long enough.”

Spoilers for Volume 1 ahead!

Written by Steve Orlando, Volume 1 kicked off with a bang when readers were able to meet Mantor the Magician who has not been seen in the MCU since 1940’s Human Torch #2.

Despite this solo appearance, he managed to create quite the impression when he saved a woman called Joan Winters from committing suicide. He then went on to investigate a series of supernatural occurrences before disappearing from the Marvel Universe. That was until now.

It seems as though Mantor the Magician has spent the last few years being an employee at Wanda’s Emporium as an appraiser of occult items.

However, readers don’t get to spend too much time with the returning character as he is soon tragically crushed to death by a spike following a battle with some supernatural beings.

It’s a short but sweet reintroduction to Mantor but it is interesting to see an old character nonetheless.
