Marvel just killed off Deadpool using the last hero we expected

This article contains spoilers.

Marvel has just killed off Deadpool from the last hero we might expect and to make matters worse, the death count didn't stop there.

The Marvel comic book universe is no stranger to shocking deaths, from Gwen Stacy’s neck snapping like a twig in 1973’s The Amazing Spider-Man #121, the death of Jean Grey in 1980’s Uncanny X-Men #137 or more recently (relatively speaking), the death of Peter Parker in 2011’s Ultimate Spider-Man #160.

Check out the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer below!

However, Marvel is at it again, this time with the never-ending love-hate relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine in the very befitting ‘Red Band’ Wolverine: Revenge #4.

As reported by Comicbook.com, written by Jonathan Hickman and artwork created by Greg Capullo, the first issue of Wolverine: Revenge was released in August 2024 and by the looks of it, this five-part series is living up to brutal expectations and then some.

However, the brutality has been taken up several notches in an upcoming issue. “An eye for an eye!” begins the ominous synopsis of issue four. I am about to go into major spoilers for this issue, so you have been warned.

“Time has passed since Wolverine’s quest for vengeance began. But as an eye for an eye escalates through the years, revenge becomes a family affair! And this is going to be one hell of a reunion!”

After being recruited by Nick Fury as part of a S.H.I.E.LD strike team alongside Captain America and Winter Soldier, to stop the Russians from committing mass genocide, Wolverine learned that the once X-Men hero, Colossus has joined forces with Mastermind.

Yet, Colossus has not joined Mastermind alone, because so too has Wolverine’s brother, Sabretooth as well as Omega Red and Deadpool. Hellbent on seeing the mission through to the end, Colossus and Deadpool plant bombs on the heroic group, blasting them into smithereens.

Well, they at least thought all had been blasted into smithereens, but with Wolverine having regenerative powers (like Deadpool), Logan was able to pull himself from the brink of death in one last attempt to save the day.

After committing a heinous act, Deadpool had intentions to take his own life by melting in a radioactive reactor. When we saw the presumed dead Wolverine approach him, Deadpool had a change of heart and hoped for redemption.

“Do you really think someone who’s done all the things we’ve done can be forgiven?” said Wolverine to Deadpool, before throwing him into the reactor melting like a T-800 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Not content with concluding his path of vengeance against Deadpool and other members of Mastermind’s crew, Wolverine then went after Colossus. Despite Colossus’ efforts to justify his motives, Wolverine impaled his adamantium claws into the skull of his once loyal X-Men bredrin.

Wolverine: Revenge #4 will be available on 27 November 2024 wherever you buy your comic books.
