One of the original Avengers has teased his potential return in Avengers: Doomsday and if this happens, it would be an epic comeback.
In January 2023, Jeremy Renner who plays Avenger Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, suffered a horrific snow plough accident losing control of a 14,000lb PistenBully Snowcat clearing his neighbour's driveaways which resulted in a broken eye socket, broken jaw, fractured wrist, three breaks in his left foot and more.

By all accounts, Jeremy Renner could have died or in the best-case scenario, been paralysed. Yet, given the fact that he not only made a miraculous recovery but is even talking about making a return to the MCU, is nothing short of a miracle.

Talking of miraculous recoveries, at least when it comes to MCU characters (kind of), Robert Downey Jr., whose most famous role in Hollywood was playing the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist Tony Stark aka Iron Man, was announced as the new Doctor Doom at the recent San Diego Comic-Con.
To be honest, I’m still not sure how I feel about Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom replacing Kang the Conqueror. Not only was he fantastic as Iron Man, but he was written out of the MCU brilliantly and in some ways, it may taint that story.
Plus, Dr Victor von Doom (Doctor Doom) is quite a tall, well-built, imposing figure, I mean no disrespect to Robert Downey Jr, but he is not that. I suppose they could lean into a multiverse Infamous Iron Man story but we shall see when Fantastic Four: First Steps releases in July 2025 or Avengers: Doomsday in 2026.
Anywho, let’s get back on track. When speaking to US Weekly (thanks IGN), on the topic of Robert Downey Jr’s return to the MCU, Jeremy Renner not only seemingly hinted that he may return as Hawkeye but we could see other Avenger characters return too.

“The Avengers movies have always been fan favourites and there's so many wonderful characters in them,” said Renner. “It's going to be challenging to get everybody together.
“They're going to probably have to piece it together, like week by week kind of thing. Just people's schedules. It's a lot of people, but I'm excited about it. I think we'll probably be doing it. We'll have to figure it out. It's all brand new. It all just happened. They just made an announcement.”
It also seems that Robert Downey Jr. kept his return so secret, that not even his close Avenger friends knew. “I had no idea. This son of a ***** didn't say anything to me, and we're good friends,” Renner recalled.
“We have an Avenger family chat, right – the original six – and he said not a peep, so I got online and I started blowing up his phone, like, 'What's going on? You hid this from us all along?’ It's exciting news, man.”
