Harry Potter is about to go back to square one thanks to the upcoming HBO Max reboot, and while the original cast will not be involved in production fans think they should at least return as cameos.
Personally, I think this would take away from the new actors stepping into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter but perhaps in the right context it’d work, and be quite a sweet moment for both those on set and viewers.

Fans have been quick to suggest cameo’s or side characters the original cast could play, namely the trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

For Radcliffe in particular, fans are eying the role of James Potter for him, Harry’s dad, with one user on a Reddit thread saying: “have Dan play adult James Potter. It’s a nice throwback and they don’t need to wait till Year 7 for the cameo.”
That said it’d probably mean they’d have to be Radcliffe back a few times throughout the show’s life, which might not work for a number of reasons.
One of the biggest reasons though is Daniel Radcliffe has openly condemned J.K Rowling’s views on transgender people, along with many other previous Harry Potter actors.
While not having a massive role in the production, HBO has confirmed that J.K Rowling will be involved to ensure her fictional world is presented in the right way, so it’s unclear whether actors like Radcliffe would be willing to work with her again.

Again, I think it’d be better if there are no returning actors from the films, after all the HBO Max series is meant to be a fresh take on the franchise, and you wouldn’t want that watered down with nostalgia-bait.
