To celebrate Lara Croft’s birthday on 14 February, Crystal Dynamics gave us our first look at the redesigned archeologist ready for Tomb Raider to make a return later this year.
It has been almost six years since Crystal Dynamics released Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the last instalment in the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy. With the series a great success, it is no surprise that it is expected to make a return later this year with a new game.
Although we are yet to receive an official announcement, we have instead received our first look at a redesigned Lara Croft courtesy of an image uploaded to the new Tomb Raider website. The image shows the famous archeologist/adventurer clad in her classic blue tank top and brown shorts, complete with her wielding her dual pistols.

As for her face, it appears as though Crystal Dynamics has taken the rebooted Lara as its base and made a few changes. Described as a “unified” Lara Croft, we can assume this is the model that will be used in the upcoming game.
Back in 2022, the new game was announced with news that it would be developed in Unreal Engine 5. Since then, we have yet to receive any extra information but we could have received a hint with the unveiling of the brand-new website. The site asks fans to join the ‘Society of Raiders’ which could refer to a rumour that the new title could see Lara take on the role of mentor for a young group of adventurers.
This news comes after Tomb Raider I-III Remastered released this week and saw the iconic PS1 platformers finally get an update. With the trilogy currently sitting at a favourable 78 user score for Playstation 5 users on Metacritic, it is performing quite well which shows that fans are still eager for the next Tomb Raider reboot.
