The Last of Us’ second season looks set to follow in the footsteps of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II seeing as Ellie actor Bella Ramsey has teased a much darker season this time around.
The countdown to the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us is officially on. It’s been revealed that the plan is for the show to air in 2025, although the ongoing WGA strike could delay this if it isn’t resolved in the next couple of months. We already know that the strike has brought script writing and auditions to a halt. Season two will indeed adapt Part II though, and it will do so across several seasons - presumably seasons two and three. The future of the series beyond that remains unknown seeing as The Last of Us Part III is yet to exist. Teasing the Part II storyline, Bella Ramsey has explained how they feel about the complex and dark story that is to come.
The Last of Us Part I recently launched on PC.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Bella explained, “It’s darker. It’s really a story about revenge, and a continuation from the first season about the dangers of unconditional love,” with the outlet adding that filming is due to start at the end of this year. Hopefully that means we’ll get some Abby casting news soon. Fans certainly have some ideas about who they’d like to see in the role.

Elsewhere, Bella spoke about their relationship with Pedro Pascal, expanding on whether Pedro truly does mind the whole ‘daddy’ debacle. “I very much played into it at the beginning,” Bella said. “But now I’m worried it’s gone too far. I don’t know whether he’s still loving it; I need to ask him. He’s a global phenomenon as he should be, because he’s pretty spectacular.”
I can’t wait to see Bella take us on the next leg of Ellie’s journey. Bring it on.
