Alright, I can’t say I’ve ever seen a game like this one before. It’s a little bit Resident Evil, it’s a little bit The Last of Us, and it’s even got a touch of Disco Elysium to it, but it’s also one of the most unique horror games I’ve ever laid my eyes on.
Holstin is a “psychological survival horror game” from developer and publisher Sonka on Steam, but that’s kind of underselling it.
There’s an eerie, spooky little town to explore, zombies to gun down, and there are some light puzzling elements to the gameplay you’ll have to overcome, yet the real draw of this one lies in its unique take on camera perspectives.

Take a look at the gameplay trailer, and you’ll immediately see what I’m talking about.
Holstin allows you to move the camera within eight different fields of view during the top-down, isometric parts of the gameplay, but it also lets you jump into a third person shooter view once combat kicks off.
The trailer makes it look like you can jump in and out of the top-down view whenever you like, which would be extremely impressive considering the Steam page boasts that it has entirely “hand-drawn pixel-art environments”.

No need to guess, though, as while Holstin doesn’t have a release date yet, it does have a demo that you can already get your hands on (well, on Steam at least). That’s my evening sorted.
Don’t feel too left out if you’re not a PC gamer however, as the devs behind the game have promised that it’ll be coming to PlayStation, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch when it drops.
Honestly don’t think I’ve gone from zero to excited this quickly on a game in a long time. Incredibly impressive work from a first-time developer.
