I still remember the day that it was announced that Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey would be bringing Joel and Ellie to life in HBO’s The Last of Us. Then came several long months of pouring over blurry set photos and here we are now. Season one has already drawn to a close. It sure was a fun ride and if you’re anything like me, I’d imagine you cannot wait to do it all again for season two.
The Last of Us’ season finale certainly gave us a lot to talk about. If you’re a fan of The Last of Us Part II, you may be intrigued to know that viewers think they spotted Abby fleeing the Firefly hospital. A woman with a braid escaping Joel alive? That can’t be a coincidence. Fans are in agreement that Ashley Johnson absolutely crushed it as Anna Williams, but the main topic of debate has certainly been Joel’s actions. Most fans are siding with the character though. The season may be over but the fun doesn’t have to stop there. There is actually one more bonus episode fans can enjoy.
The Last of Us Part I launches on PC on 28 March.
It’s true. Straight after Sunday night’s finale, HBO aired Making of The Last of Us - a documentary that does exactly what it says on the tin. The special instalment took viewers behind the scenes on the hit show to explore how it was made. The documentary included interviews with the show’s cast, crew, and creatives. For example, Bella spoke about how filming with Nabo the giraffe was a “spiritual experience”. Yes, it was a real giraffe.

That’s not all. You can see how Tess’ kiss of death was brought to life, how the VFX team created the premiere’s incredible opening plane crash, the filming process of episode five’s horde sequence, how infected were brought to life using practical effects, and what it was like shooting in Canada’s freezing winter temperatures.
There is one catch though. At the time of writing, the documentary is only available for those with access to HBO / HBO Max. Here in the UK, the documentary is nowhere to be found on NOW TV / Sky Atlantic and those in other international territories have also reported that the episode is yet to become available. Given the global success of the series, I’d imagine that the documentary will be released soon although no details are available right now. US friends, enjoy on behalf of the rest of us.
