The DCU may have finally found its Man of Steel for the upcoming movie reboot, Superman Legacy.
In February 2023, DC announced its plans for a movie and TV shakeup, rebranding the DC Extended Universe, to simply DC Universe. The new DC era will be led by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The DCU will take heavy inspiration from the MCU by linking together its TV and movie properties into one cohesive multiverse or in some cases, it will even include the world of video games.
The two leading DC mascots, Superman and Batman are leading the charge of the DC reboot. Thankfully, however, The Batman movie directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader will remain its own entity. In fact, The Batman will now form its own standalone trilogy.

Details on the new Superman and Batman reboots are vague at this time. We do know that the new Batman movie will be called The Brave and the Bold, features Bruce Wayne’s son, Damian Wayne as one of the versions of Robin. It is also said that this movie will be the “beginning of the Bat family in the DCU '' and will likely star a new actor as Batman.
As for Superman Legacy, this will officially begin the new DCU when it launches on its current date of 11 July 2025. Safran confirmed that this story: “ focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”
Sadly, we know for sure that Henry Cavill will not be returning as the Man of Steel. So who will be the new symbol of hope? Well according to Collider, David Corenswet is being lined up to don the cape of the iconic superhero.
Corenswet is perhaps best known for his roles in the TV series’ We Own This City and The Politician, and to be fair, he does have the natural chiselled jaw look that is often associated with Clark Kent.

What’s more, Nicholas Hoult who played Hank McCoy aka Beast in the X-Men movies is being lined up to play Superman's arch nemesis, Lex Luthor, while the likes of Emma Mackey (Barbie), Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) and Samara Weaving (Scream VI) are on the shortlist to play Lois Lane.
At this time, this report is merely hearsay, so we should take all rumours and speculation with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, hopefully, James Gunn and Peter Safran will reveal all in the coming months.
