Harry Potter HBO reboot has found its Dumbledore, apparently

Some big shoes to fill

The latest Harry Potter project is in development and a new television show means a brand-new cast.

Following on from the success of the magical J.K. Rowling series, HBO has jumped on the bandwagon by developing a Harry Potter reboot for television.

In the meantime, check out the latest Harry Potter game, Quidditch Champions, below!

Although there has been no official castings as of yet, open castings began back in September and as you can imagine, fans are wondering who will take on the role of some of the iconic characters.

So far, Sirius Black actor Gary Oldman has expressed his interest in returning to the role or maybe even becoming the next Dumbledore now that he is older.

However, it seems as though the next Dumbledore may have already been cast according to a recent report by Variety.

In a statement to Variety, representatives for HBO said: “We appreciate that such a high profile series will draw a lot of rumour and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalise deals.”

According to the report, Wolf Hall and Bridge of Spies actor Mark Rylance is in talks to take on the role of Dumbledore in the HBO Harry Potter reboot.

HBO have reached out to Rylance but there is no confirmation as of yet.

As of now, the iconic wizard has been portrayed by four different actors throughout the original Harry Potter movie franchise, as well as the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs.

Richard Harris took up the mantle before his death and then the role was passed onto Michael Gambon as of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Flashbacks saw the role go to Toby Regbo and the Fantastic Beasts series welcomed Jude Law as a young Dumbledore.

It is definitely some big shoes to fill but if anybody could do it, Rylance can.

For now, we will just have to wait to see if HBO’s plans come to fruition but with the show due to air in 2026, it won’t be long before we see which actors will step into the shoes of the golden trio.
