Since the series' inception in 1996, Resident Evil has grown bigger and more popular than ever among the survival horror community, and if you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, you can play two recent titles at no extra cost.
In 2002, Capcom raised the bar of what’s expected of a remake with Resident Evil for the Nintendo GameCube, which later received remasters and to this very day, it’s aged like a fine wine. Nearly 20 years later, Capcom then graced us with the Resident Evil 2 remake inspired by the game that many consider to be the best in the series.

Capcom capitalised on the success of the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake by releasing Resident Evil 3 the following year and then Resident Evil 4 in 2023. It’s expected that there will be further remakes, but at this time, Capcom hasn't revealed which, but Resident Evil Code: Veronica remains a popular choice with fans.

Until the next remake may or may not arrive, members of Xbox Game Pass can play Resident Evil 3 which has just joined Resident Evil 2 in Microsoft’s ever-revolving subscription-based library. Much like the original Resident Evil 3 of 1999, the 2020 remake is short of scares, but it’s a fun action-packed time slaying with hordes of the undead while being pursued by the tyrant Nemesis.
“Jill Valentine is one of the last remaining people in Raccoon City to witness the atrocities Umbrella performed. To stop her, Umbrella unleashes their ultimate secret weapon: Nemesis,” reads the synopsis of Resident Evil 3.
At this time, we don't know how long the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes will remain on Xbox Game Pass, but you might want to check them out now before they are eventually removed.
Resident Evil 3 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. What’s more, it’s also received a free new-gen upgrade on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
