What’s next for Resident Evil? Since the release of Resident Evil 4’s remake earlier this year, there’s been nothing official on the cards for the future of Capcom’s iconic horror franchise.
However, that could apparently be due to change very soon. According to supposed industry insider @MarxxChris on Twitter, Resident Evil 9 is on the way, and it’s going to be putting Chris Redfield back in the driver’s seat. Watch out, boulders.
Take a look at our review of Resident Evil 4 (2023) below.
“RE9 will primarily revolve around the character of Chris Redfield, with the potential inclusion of other classic characters in the narrative,” @MarxxChris tweeted last month. “However, it is my belief that the story arc involving Ethan Winters has concluded, or at least temporarily reached its conclusion.”
This month, the insider added to this rumour further, and named a number of the ‘classic characters’ who'll apparently be included in the title: “Classic characters such as Claire, Jill, Leon, and Chris (protagonist) will return in the upcoming Resident Evil game. Players will also have the chance to play as other characters in certain missions. The game is expected to focus less on horror and more on action.

“It will still be a horror game,” @MarxxChris continued. “The camera mode is yet to be confirmed, but there is a possibility that players may have the option to choose between third-person and first-person perspectives. I expect it to release later in 2024, Capcom should start talking this year.”
What’s more, the insider claims that Capcom will soon begin work on a remake of Code: Veronica, and maybe even a Resident Evil 5 remake at some point later down the line. There’s no doubt that this would all go down very well with fans, but as with any unofficial information, take it with a pinch of salt for now.
