Especially in recent weeks, Capcom’s iconic survival horror franchise, Resident Evil has been the talk of the town with reports of new games and remakes being on the way.
We’ve heard that we’re getting another remake of the original Resident Evil as well as the heavily rumoured remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica and the likely release that is the topic of today’s discussion, Resident Evil 9. However, not everyone is happy with the news of Resident Evil 9, especially when it comes to its potential full name.
Check out the Resident Evil Village trailer below!
Earlier this week, online retailer Play Asia listed Resident Evil, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 9 all for PlayStation 5. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that Capcom has made no official announcements on upcoming releases from the survival horror series, as likely as they may all be.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that this retailer could just be capitalising on recent hype by claiming pre-orders for games that might not even arrive and could be mere placeholders at best. What’s more, the retailer listing for Resident Evil 9 not only included an alleged full name but also a description, as AI-generated as the description sounds, along with its “artwork”.
The description for Resident Evil 9 reads: “The latest instalment in the iconic survival horror series by Capcom. This game continues the chilling legacy with a fresh story, new characters, and the return of familiar faces.”
“Set in an expansive, terrifying world filled with new threats and mysteries, Revenant Shadows blends intense action, intricate puzzles, and the atmospheric dread that fans have come to love,” it concludes.
Yet, as exciting as it is knowing that a new Resident Evil game is likely on the way at some point, fans on Reddit have been roasting its potential full name, Resident Evil 9: Revenant Shadows.

“Revenant Shadows. File this away with Zelda: Reigns of Sorrow as one of the fakest fan names of all time,” said Whitewinds617. “Maybe if it came out in the early 2000s, otherwise no way a game is called “Revenant Shadows”, it screams early 2000 title cheese,” replied GamingGirls.
“What does "Resident Evil 9 Revenant Shadows" even mean? It sounds like a buzzword, like something created by a marketing team out of vaguely cool and dark-sounding words. It sucks,” exclaimed Sweaty-Professor-187.
Even the supposed artwork is being roasted with comments such as “That's the fakest cover of all time,” from Reddior Hadoukenneth. As you can imagine, much of the thread shares the same sentiment on the suggested name and artwork for Resident Evil 9.
Hopefully, this won’t be the proper name of Resident Evil 9 and I very much doubt that it will be. With a bit of luck, Capcom will officially reveal all the juicy details in the coming months.
