June is set to be a huge month for gaming announcements and just a few days ago, Sony kicked things off with the latest edition of State of Play. In case you missed it, Capcom finally announced and unveiled their remake of 2005’s Resident Evil 4 and dang, it looks good.
We were treated to an incredible trailer which confirmed the release date to be 24 March 2023, and it does look like the remake will be new-gen only. Logistical elements aside, eagle-eyed fans have spotted some very interesting details in the trailer.
Take a look at the brand new trailer for Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake below.
The Resident Evil 4 remake is set to feature a reimagined storyline so whilst it’ll still preserve the essence of the original game, we should expect to see some changes. Developers said, “We aim to make the game feel familiar to fans of the series, while also providing a fresh feeling to it. This is being done by reimagining the storyline of the game while keeping the essence of its direction.”

Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village have always shared tonal similarities but the aforementioned “reimagining” could link the two officially. Reddit user kaijumediajames spotted a symbol in the Resident Evil 4 trailer which strongly resembles the cult symbol used by Resident Evil Village’s Mother Miranda. Both feature a circular design with four protruding spokes. Check it out for yourself below.
User Lejitness pointed out the stark similarities between Saddler (the main antagonist of Resident Evil 4) and one of Mother Miranda’s physical forms from Resident Evil Village. You may think that this is a simple coincidence but some have theorised that perhaps Saddler learnt of Las Plagas from Mother Miranda.
If this was proved to be true, Mother Miranda would have triggered the events of Resident Evil 4. She later implements a similar technique when she uses the Caduo in Resident Evil Village.

The two games have been officially linked before, albeit in a small capacity. Resident Evil Village’s Duke referred to Resident Evil 4’s Merchant as an “old friend,” but there’s certainly the scope to expand these connections. I was already excited for the remake, but these theories are kicking that up a level.
