We finally got our first teaser for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Avengers: Doomsday, directly from the set, and fans are feeling divided regarding the direction that Disney is choosing to take.
Last night, the Russo brothers (the directors behind Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame) uploaded a very telling picture from the set of Avengers: Doomsday.
Although opinions have been mixed regarding their choice to have Robert Downey Jr. take over the role of Doctor Doom, many have theorised that the casting reveal was supposed to be intentionally misleading.

A lot of folks are adamant that Robert Downey Jr. won’t be portraying Victor Von Doom directly, but will instead be, once again, portraying Tony Stark, albeit a variant.
However, the Russo brothers' latest tease from the set of the film seems to directly counteract this theory, as it displays the name “Victor Von Doom”.
Over on the r/marvelstudios subreddit, fans still seem more unsure than ever following the teaser.
Thunderbolts* is the MCU's current major release.
“This confirms he’s playing a different character and not a Stark variant. I’m really hoping the story is well-written and justifies RDJ’s Doom in a way that respects the character’s core traits and the source material,” commented user Warm_Veterinarian803.

“I feel like Doomsday might end up being a mix of Time Runs Out, Books of Doom, and a little sprinkle of House of M, with some Jonathan Hickman Fantastic Four multiverse elements thrown in. Cautiously optimistic — but I can’t lie, I’m hyped!”
“I would love to have been misled and find out that RDJ is not actually Doom, or is only him in one scene, and Doom is actually played by someone else, either someone we recognise or not,” replied user StuckInAWell. “It would be a great red Herring.”
Personally, I’m still on board with the theory that this is simply misdirection. Having Robert Downey Jr. portray Victor Von Doom for the rest of the MCU seems like an odd choice in the long run, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot more to this.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until next year to find out for sure. But hey, there are rumours that Thunderbolts* apparently has some kind of Avengers: Doomsday teaser at the end of it to tide us over…
