It’s been a busy ol’ week when it comes to major announcements, and that’s not even taking into account the Xbox and Bethesda showcase later today. The Last of Us Part 1 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II have dominated headlines but it’s nice to give our indie friends a shout out too.
One such indie title is going head to head with the likes of The Callisto Protocol, Fort Solis, and Aliens: Dark Descent. Horror has always been popular but it’s certainly had quite the moment this week, and indie game ILL may just look like the scariest game out of the lot.
Speaking of horror titles, have you seen the trailer for Slitterhead yet? If not, it’s worth a watch.
Announced during GamesRadar’s Future Games Show, ILL is the brainchild of indie studio Team Clout. The first-person title has been made in Unreal Engine 5 and it definitely shows. The graphics are stunning which coincidentally, means the various monsters look extra terrifying. In the brand new gameplay trailer, we see a whole host of grotesque zombie-like creatures lurking in darkened rooms. Check out the spine-tingling gameplay trailer for ILL below … if you dare.
Team Clout are keeping tight-lipped on the plot but they’ve promised “immersive visuals and thrilling designs,” in addition to “an easy-to-understand story and shocking discoveries.” The team also mentioned that the game will have “advanced physics” including “interactive environments, active ragdoll, dismemberment, [and] real-time body transformations.” I don’t know about you but that list is sending a shudder straight through me. Active ragdoll? Sounds like pure nightmare fuel.

It’s worth noting that there’s no set release date for ILL as the project is being funded on Patreon. As the developers note, “Your support will help us to concentrate more on developing and cover additional costs. Long term goals are to expand our team and make ILL our full-time job.” I’d be surprised if horror fans didn’t rally around this one. ILL looks like it could be a brilliant horror title.
