To celebrate the birth of its player base, Sony is giving PlayStation users the chance to get their hands on a free download for their birthdays. Even better, all you need to do to claim it is well… age up.
Since the arrival of the PlayStation Stars loyalty programme, it seems as though Sony are coming up with more fun and inventive ways for players to not only get their hands on Store Credit but also rare collectibles. The collectibles in question are often earned by completing in-game challenges and can be a fun way to show off your gaming skills.
However, for one day a year, PlayStation users can get their hands on a cute new collectible just for celebrating their birthday. The feature was spotted by one user on r/playstationstars who posted a screenshot of the moment they received the reward.

Check out the PlayStation 5 below!
“Happy birthday!” The screen reads. “Congratulations! PlayStation Stars would like to congratulate you on your birthday! We have this digital collector’s item especially for this day”.
Alongside the announcement, we can see the item in question which in this case is a cute kitten perched in a plane. I’m unsure what this has to do with a birthday but we will take it!

This is seemingly the second year running that PlayStation has awarded a birthday collectible to its player base but as with any free item, it has received its fair share of criticism.
“Awesome! I didn't get the previous one either and my birthday was on December 20th,” read one reply. “I would email PlayStation, but it sounds weird that "Hey, you were supposed to give me a PlayStation stars gift for my birthday, but you didn't, so I'm here to complain".
Alongside anniversary collectibles, this is just one other (and easier) way to get your hands on some free digital items so make sure your correct birthday is included in your PlayStation profile so you don’t miss out!
