Thanks to stock shortages and scalpers, it was incredibly difficult to buy a PS5 when the console first launched. In fact, it’s only very recently become easier.
Although those who set up stock alerts on their phones (and those who got lucky) might have managed to pick up one of Sony’s new generation consoles at some point since it came out, it was only in January this year that Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan said: “Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward.” Given that we’re fast approaching the console’s third birthday, some might have started to consider simply waiting for the next generation of consoles to release instead, but you’ll apparently be hanging on for a very long time if so.
The PS VR2 released late last month for PS5 owners - take a look at our review right here.
In a new report from prominent games industry leaker Tom Henderson (via Insider Gaming), it's claimed that the PS6 isn’t expected to release until “at least 2028”. Earlier this month, official documents made public by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) seemed to suggest that the next generation console could release sometime after 2027, so while it all lines up, it seems that insiders think the wait could be even longer than we initially thought.

Previously, the longest amount of time we’ve had to wait for a new PlayStation console was seven years (it was basically the exact same wait between the PS3 and PS4 as it was the PS4 and PS5), so with that in mind, anything beyond November 2027 will be the biggest gap we’ve ever had between Sony’s console generations.
According to the same report from Insider Gaming, the PS5 Pro is officially in development and is currently expected to release late in 2024, so if that’s true, at least we can look forward to a souped-up version of the current-gen console pretty soon. Be sure to take it with a pinch of salt until it's officially confirmed, however.
