With competition between Xbox and PlayStation as fierce as ever amidst rumours of next-gen units, a recent leak reveals that the next Xbox console will be cheaper than its PlayStation 6 competitor.
June 2023 saw reports stemming from leaked Microsoft documents that the next Xbox and PlayStation would be arriving in 2028. This came courtesy of an article by Insider-Gaming’s Tom Henderson who “understands that the next generation of the PlayStation, the PS6, is unlikely to release until at least 2028.” However, new leaks suggest that the next-gen consoles could arrive as early as 2026.

The rumour comes from Youtuber Red Gaming Tech who believes the next Xbox will be arriving in around two years time, before the PlayStation 6. Not only that, but they also believe the Xbox will be cheaper than its PlayStation counterpart for the first time since the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era.

Since then, the PlayStation 4 was retailed at a lower price than the Xbox One and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X came in at the same price (unless you bought the digital edition). Although the Xbox Series S was cheaper than the PlayStation 5, it’s limited power makes it unfair to make comparisons.
As well as a 2026 estimate, Red Gaming Tech also believes the next-gen Xbox will be powered by a Zen 5 CPU. However, this is likely to be considerably weaker than what will be used for the PlayStation 6 so although the Xbox may arrive sooner and at a cheaper price point, it may be sacrificing some of its power.
In related news, the Xbox ‘Next’ console received some new details yesterday courtesy of a PS5 Pro leaker. Could this be the next-gen Xbox console that is set to be cheaper than the PlayStation 6? Only time will tell but the feud between Microsoft and Sony continues on.
