Xbox fans are having a moment right now. Not only are they having fantastic luck with Xbox Game Pass, but they’re also due to get the Gears of War 6 they’ve been begging for.
The last we heard about the possibility of another Gears of War game was back in December 2023 – which already feels like another lifetime ago. Back then, a 2024 launch was teased, however, an official announcement to confirm this never came.
During a recent Kinda Funny Xcast episode on YouTube, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb said, “I've heard some stuff might be happening with Gears 6 this summer. So, I think that a tease sounds about right to me... that seems like what we can expect.”
Yet, even after teasing this final return, Grubb and co also suggested that the new Gears of War might not come out until the next Xbox is launched. Although we know that the PlayStation 5 is in its “latter stage”, we’re not as certain that the Xbox Series X is.

Either way, an announcement at the Xbox Showcase this summer would be the prime time to reveal Gears 6, even if it isn’t releasing until much later down the road. Though not too far in the future – we all know how fans reacted when Bethesda made that mistake with The Elder Scrolls VI.
Let's throw it back to Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
“Wow a new Gears announcement at the big Xbox event? What an inside scoop!” said a fan sarcastically, evidently neither convinced nor surprised at the possibility.

Even though such a platform is an obvious choice, after how long fans have been waiting, we doubt anyone really cares about its obviousness. All we can do now, though, is wait for the summer to see if Grubb’s predictions hold up. Fortunately, Grubb has a get out of jail free card, in that he says quite clearly how plans can change.
