Fans of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series can now relax knowing that the sixth numbered entry is in sight. Well, kind of.
Earlier this week, Rockstar Games finally revealed the first official trailer for GTA VI which sent social media into a frenzy buzzing with excitement. Yet, fans will have to be patient for its arrival. Not only is GTA VI arriving in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but PC gamers will have to wait even longer for its release.

Unfortunately, millions of gamers may miss out on GTA VI unless they upgrade to a modern console. However, concerns have been raised for those who may choose to play GTA VI on the Xbox Series S. Don't get me wrong, the Series S is a fantastic little console, but compared to the Xbox Series X and PS5, it doesn't quite hold up. Recently we’ve already seen the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3 being delayed on Xbox due to the technical restraints of the Series S. Thankfully that elusive Xbox Series X|S Baldur’s Gate 3 release date is finally nigh.

That being said, GTA VI will very likely be a different beast to the impressive Baldur’s Gate 3 and some gamers are concerned that the Xbox Series S won't be able to run the highly anticipated title from Rockstar Games to an acceptable level.
“I wonder how GTA VI will run on Series S,” asked Redditor SeaMachine649. “As we saw in the trailer, the graphical fidelity is incredible. Alan Wake II shows that massive downgrades are needed to run at 30fps [on Series S]. I'm kind of worried that GTA VI will be unstable on release. I don't care about low resolutions as long as it's a stable 30fps.”

“Rockstar Games doesn’t have a choice but to make it work,” claimed an optimistic Capital-Can4210. “I’m willing to bet it’ll look fine, but it’ll magnify the power gap between the Series S|X and PS5 significantly.”
“It'll work like how AAA Nintendo Switch games work. Don't expect the fidelity in the faces and eyes, ray tracing etc,” claimed Winniethepoohspooh. “Expect the Xbox Series S version of GTA VI to be more in line with GTA V on Series S with no bells and whistles.”
“Have you played Cyberpunk 2077 on Series S? GTA VI will run fine, just at lower frame rates and resolutions than Series X,” explained SphereWorshipper. “Microsoft won't p*** off a bunch of their console owners by upgrading the specs in S and X. At least, not for another five years or so when it will probably be spoken about as the next generation of consoles. I've owned the Series X and a PS5 as well as the Series S and it's a very powerful console. Quite often the difference in games on each is not very noticeable. Not at a glance.”
Hopefully, regardless of the platform of choice, everyone can enjoy Grand Theft Auto VI when it is released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
