Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski has previously mentioned that he would love to return to the much-loved third-person shooter series. However, he has now taken to Twitter to reveal it is finally “time to move on”.
Sometimes known as Cliffy B, Bleszinski is perhaps best known for starting off as the lead designer on the original Gears of War trilogy before going on to found Boss Key Productions studio alongside releasing arena shooter Lawbreakers. Despite somewhat straying from the Gears of War franchise in recent years, Bleszinski has regularly expressed an interest in returning but that may not be happening anytime soon thanks to a recent statement.

"We've been over this a million times," he shared via Twitter. "I'm down to consult. Give my two cents. I understand that Gears will always be an enormous part of my legacy. I appreciate and respect that. That said, [Microsoft] haven't hit me up. OK. It is what it is.”

He continues by saying that Microsoft/Coalition would be “smart” to “enlist me for my input” as it would be “gold” from a PR standpoint. However, he reveals this has not been the case and it “is what it is”.
Despite the somewhat sour start to the statement’s beginning, Bleszinski also shares that he has been far from idle after working on Broadway, a memoir and even stand-up comedy.
"As much as I appreciate your support and those who know me from my Gears work (I did a lot more than that game series, for the record) it’s time to move on," he says. “I’m on a journey. I have been for some time now.”
Gears of War last welcomed an entry back in 2019 with the release of Gears 5 followed by its Hivebusters expansion a year later. It remains to be seen when fans can expect the sixth instalment but it unfortunately looks as though Cliffy B will not be involved with its development.
