If you’re a fan of The Legend of Zelda series, especially the instalments of yesteryear, then you might want to check out this Steam freebie.
Beginning life on the NES in 1986, The Legend of Zelda series is one of the most beloved video game franchises of all time and not just on Nintendo systems. Since that time, players have embarked on countless adventures as Link on a quest to save Hyrule from the likes of Ganondorf.

Over the years, The Legend of Zelda series has evolved into a massive franchise, and I’m not just talking about its popularity. The maps in the likes of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are huge.

However, sometimes it’s nice to take it back a few decades, which is why I love to revisit my favourite game of the series, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - a beloved SNES classic originally released in 1991.
That being said, if you want to play something a little different but still inspired by classic The Legend of Zelda games, then look no further than this indie delight developed and published by Olivier PIERRE.
“Alix is a retro-RPG pixel art adventure game, in which you must find and save your little sister, discover the mystery of the island of Auralia, and revive all the animals of the archipel that have disappeared,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam. “Puzzles, fights and quests are all there, waiting for you!”
At the time of writing, Alix does not have a release date but in the meantime, you can wishlist it on Steam and also download and play its free demo.

Perhaps with an added hint of Stardew Valley, Alix certainly looks like a charming blast from the past and hopefully, you’ll find some enjoyment courtesy of this demo.
